Hello Blog.

I have been making enamelled copper jewellery for a short while now, so I thought it would be a good idea to start making a record of what I get up to in the studio.
After experimenting with a few different necklace and earring designs I've decided to retrace my steps and go back to the beginning.
So I have started off a batch of enamelled brooches finished with ceramic decals, in the shape of hearts, butterflys and birds.

Some of the first finished brooches - still in need of some refinement and consideration.  The stars are not going to be taken any further and the tree form is not quite right in conjunction with the surface pattern.  A new tree shape will be designed for pattern and this one can be used for plain decoration.

So far I have just settled on three shapes, heart, bird and butterfly.

Each copper piece is hand cut and filed, then finished with my Foredom pendant drill.  The Fordom is my new best friend - it cuts out a lot of grinding and polishing time, and can give a lovely mirror finish to highlight the edges of the brooches.

Note the broken saw blade - one of many this week.

  1. Allyson It all looks great at your end, nice to see you're beavering away, your brooches remind me of your Raku pots from many stars and moons ago. xx
